This book covers the essentials of the all the bread-and-butter emergency medicine cases in a manner perfect for easy learning. Don't waste time with other books, this book has everything a medical student could want for his/her rotation. Cases are short enough to read a few per night and are full of all the information to understand how to approach, work-up, and manage a EM patient. Almost invariably, I would be pimped on the exact information that was covered in the cases. The patients I saw were virtually identical to those in the cases. This series is wonderful for the medical student, especially the 3rd year.

I use the Case Files series for almost all of my rotations- indicating I like how they are set up and how they present the information. This one is probably the worst one yet containing an error every two to three pages. Most commonly words are left out. Usually it doesn't effect the meaning or understanding, but just annoying (enough that it's making me write this review). I'm highly disappointed that buying the newest edition didn't get me a better book. I will probably avoid buying more Case Files until they start proof reading the books they publish. Sad to see this happen.

I am a fourth year medical student rotating on EM. I found the cases to be pretty comprehensive, and actually go and explain pathophysiology, and apply some of the basic historical and physical exam findings that may be forgotten over time. The beginning of the book challenges you to think about each case, not just "what is the diagnosis?" but also, "what are the next steps that need to be taken?". That practice, along with the reading material, has really been wonderful. As someone preparing for internship pretty soon, this book actually makes me feel more confident in my ability to manage patients.

Perfect book. Clinical vignette with explanations of correct answer and why the other choices are wrong. There are also review questions for each topic. Highly recommend. This is just about all I used during clinicals.

Nice overview and perfect for med student clerkship! I am not going into emergency medicine and wanted something that just gave me a good basic understanding of common emergencies. Case Files definitely provided that. However, if you are looking for more detail and current guidelines and practices in EM you may consider getting a more comprehensive resource.

So far, they're all great. Another good one that didn't disappoint. Love the case presentation and the way the book walks you through summary of case, the main problems, then main solutions, and careful considerations. Organized, methodical, the way you need to think in medicine.

(+) Good review for the SAEM exam and the Emergency Medicine Shelf Exam.(-) Lengthy book for what it covers. Could be more concise. Also, no review of procedures like the roadmap series.

Here's the first sentence of Case 25 quoted verbatim: "A 27-year-old woman notice that since 1 day ago, she has noticed that her mouth has been drooping in the right corner, and it is difficult to her to drink water without drooling."The patient's diagnosis in that case turns out to be Bell's palsy, but the book refers to it repeatedly as "Bell palsy."I would say that this book was poorly edited, but it appears not to have been edited at all. It is also poorly organized. The Table of Contents says, "Fifty-Eight Case Scenarios" without listing them or giving any indication of what they are about.Don't waste your money.
