I bought this book about a month before I took the PRAXIS. Honestly, the book is not great. It was helpful in that it made me think about everything I'd learned over the past few years in grad school, but the book itself seems poorly edited with questions that are at times confusing and answers that tend to contradict themselves. Unfortunately, there are not a lot of resources out there to help prepare for the PRAXIS in speech pathology, so this was my main review guide and it was adequate. Basically I'd say this book is useful for helping you remember things you already know, but will not provide any new information.
I went through this entire book in order to study for the Praxis. This book was not helpful at all in preparing for the Praxis. The questions are formatted completely differently than the ones on the real test, with almost every question offering all of the above or none of the above options... which did not occur on the real test at all. The book has many errors, including typos, misprints of the answers to questions, and answers that do not aline with other books or coursework in Speech Pathology. The book also spends a lot of time on subjects that did not appear on the Praxis exam. The questions in this book were much more difficult than those on the Praxis and made it hard to learn from or accurately assess your knowledge. Many questions were ambiguous and allowed for more than one answer depending on the person's interpretation of the question. The practice test on the CD that is included is just randomized questions from the book, so no new content. I felt like I wasted a lot of my time studying from this book and would not recommend it to anyone.
This book has an amazing amount of practice questions! It's great for testing your knowledge, although there are a large amount of questions that have "all of the above" answers or "A and C only" answers, or questions that ask for knowledge of obscure book titles or have a large quote from an article, which are not common question formats for the actual PRAXIS exam. Still, the practice questions, particularly found on the CD, are useful for determining which areas one should study.That being said, there are also many questions that have content errors. For example, one question provides the answer "A and C only" which is to be counted as "correct," but, based on the explanation of the answer, the choice was supposed to be "A and D only." This makes studying very confusing because you may think you are doing badly, but really it's because the "correct" answer is not actually "correct." It's annoying to parse through the explanation of each answer to see if your answer that was counted as "incorrect" was actually correct.I would recommend renting this book from your university library (don't buy it, if you can help it) once you have studied your classroom materials, read "An Advanced Review of Speech-Language Pathology" by Roseberry & McKibbin (which is a good overview book that could be used in your career later), and taken the practice test provided by ETS.
Has a large collection of excellent questions. My wife tool her SLP test recently and she passed. She used this book and M N Hegde. The CD which comes with it too is great to take it as the actual test.
This review book contained a ton of spelling errors and content errors. The format of the questions were not at all like the questions that appeared on the actual Praxis exam. I would not buy this book again.
Do not buy this book as your primary Praxis study guide! I did, and ended up putting my test off because of it. I thought that since I did horribly on these quizzes I didn't know what I needed to take the test. Wrong! This is not a study guide. It will not help you review for the test. This is a book of questions, divided by topic, that asks you random things in far more depth, or even off topic, than what is on the Praxis. The format of the questions and answers do not match what is on the Praxis. For example, they frequently have the option none or all of the above, which is not typical of the Praxis. Following each section is an answer section where the authors explain why the answer was correct, and the others were incorrect, on varying levels. The answers given are not always correct. The only situation I can see that this book would be a helpful resource is if you have already studied for the test using the Roseberry book, the materials you can buy from ets, and your books/notes from grad school, have taken the practice tests that come with the Roseberry book, have taken the practice tests you can buy directly from ets, and want to practice more. But honestly, if you have done all of the above you shouldn't need to, and the book is more likely to confuse you than help.
I bought both this book and An Advanced review for SLP (Roseberry-McKibben & Hedge)which I found to be much more helpful. Mosby's Review Questions is basically a book and cd of questions and answers that I found to be a waste of time over just studying the information. I also agree with some reviewers on finding the answers to some questions to be wrong. I don't like how this book doesn't give evidence based citations to back up the answers to their questions. Overall most questions in this book seem to be much harder then what you'll see on the Praxis and read like trick questions. Skip this book.
