For someone who is new to the craft I have found this to be a useful book about the Summer equinox. Itâs an over-sized paperback, 5 x 7 inches with 240 written pages.I found it to be a very useful reference book. First of all they give you the background on the different sabbats. You are given the old ways and new ways of celebrating which I found interesting and enlightening. My favorite chapters were the Spells and Divinations, Recipes and Crafts. Both chapters gave me a lot to work on and do. I also found the Prayers and Invocation chapter useful. Newbies need help in figuring out what to say or at least I do.There was also a list of rituals, of other helpful books and interesting facts about the sabbat.I have found that the Llewellyn books are very useful and plan on getting the rest of the books in this series.
This is a great books serious. I wouldn't use these as a dependent everyday book but these do have useful knowledge and are just pretty read to add to your collection either way. This series is very knowledgable and helpful
Nice complication of lore, ideas, and meanings behind Midsummer or Litha. It is called the "Essentials" not the "in-depth" so don't expect a peer reviewed publication on the full ins and outs of the holiday. But if you want some history and some fun ideas to celebrate the season, this series hits the spot
Another handy volume in this series (an introduction to various aspects of the four Quarters and Crossquarters that many Pagan celebrate). As in the other books in the series, this is a relatively light introduction to various traditions and possibilities for celebrating or honoring the Summer Solstice, with something of the history, a handy appendix of correspondences, and ideas for recipes and crafts, rituals, prayers and meditations, and magical workings. The lore seems to be pretty solid, and naturally some of the practices suggested strike me as more appropriate than others- but it's all about picking and choosing to make it meaningful for yourself and the people who might celebrate with you. This one seemed to me to be somewhat less Wiccan than some of the others, if that matters.
This entire series is worth buying if you are interested in more information on the Sabbats. Rituals, prayers and even recipes and crafts are listed in these books for the occasion. A must have in everyone's collection! :D
Well, I expected a bit more from Llewellyn, Generally I love their stuff, But they seem to be giving these books a lick and a promise instead of substance. No real problem with what is there, Just not enough of anything.
I'm enjoying the whole series, and Deborah has done a wonderful job of showing me new ways to celebrate the Litha (Midsummer) holiday. I'm going to enjoy making the crafts and bringing the symbolism into the foods that I will be serving. I've been a practicing Witch for almost 30 years, but it's always fun learning new lore about the Sabbats.
Well written, Loads of interesting facts, Foods for the season, spells , plant information. I have ordered the entire set, on a pre ordering. Good for beginners as well as seasoned pagans. price is good, delivery fast for Prime. Can recommend.
