Items provide detailed information on common diseases and conditions, helping you code more effectively. Symbols throughout the text alert you to new, revised, and deleted codes and clearly identify codes that require special consideration before assigning symbols, including use additional, includes and excludes, code first, and codes that cannot be assigned as principal diagnoses. Present on Admission symbol highlights particular diseases that will always be coded as present on admission. Hospital Acquired Condition symbol notes specific conditions that will always be coded as hospital acquired for easier recognition. Complications & Comorbidities (CC) and Major Complications & Comorbidities (MCC) symbols help you instantly recognize codes associated with the presence of secondary diagnoses from MS-DRGs. CC and MCC Exclusion lists instantly alert you to CC and MCC exceptions. Additional hints, tips and definitions within specific codes provide extra guidance in coding anatomy, pathophysiology, or other coding directions. Guide to the Updates enables you to reference all annual coding changes at a glance. References to the American Hospital Association's Coding Clinics help you find expanded information about specific codes and their usage. Age and Sex edits alert you to codes that are used only with patients of a specific age or sex, helping to ensure accurate reporting. Manifestation code helps you identify certain conditions where it is important to record both the etiology (cause) and the manifestation (symptom) of the disease. Omit and Code Also codes highlight government text needing special attention. Valid OR Procedure symbols help you recognize procedures affected by DRG. Coding updates on the companion codingupdates.com website keep you informed of changes to ICD codes. Authorized support you can take into certification exams to enhance your testing experience and help you ensure certification success.

This book has good information, but I found out the INGENIX also publishes a similar book that has more helpful coding tips that this one..So I ordered a new book...anyone intrested in a almost new 2012 icd-9-cm vol 1,2 &3?

Tried this book for Certified Coding Professional Physician & Hospital, was worth spending, the other book were not that usefulNational Certification Career Association NCCA Certified Coding Professional Physician & Hospital Exam

I needed this book for my coding classes and it was a useful tool. If I could make suggestions, it would help if the different chapters weren't just in different colors, but also have tabs (with all the coding books, I had to buy and add taps enabling faster finding of the different sections).

A delightful use of color. The charts are user friendly. Many important guidelines are incorporated into the main tabular code listing. Nice images and definitions throughout the book. My main complaint is that the book is bulky and should be properly bound. The spiral binding is difficult to maneuver and makes it easier for the pages to get torn.vs.The ICD-9-CM 2012 Expert for Hospitals and Payers Volumes 1, 2, & 3 by Ingenix (Spiral-bound) has its advantages, such as tips next to many codes and clear labeling on the outer mid-right hand side of each page to let you know the exact code range or alphabetical section. (The AMA book only puts the letter or a general title.) It could use a lot more color to help the coder navigate the codes.I bought the AMA version because I felt the incorporation of the guidelines and the clear colorful charts were important features to help me pass the CCA exam.

I bought this book for my mother who very soon will be taking the exam and she loves it!!! I help her alot with reviewing and the material covered in this book far exceeds what she will most definitely need to know.

This is 2012 already and we're still carrying around these heavy books that rip our bags 3 times a year. I've been using eBooks for ICD-9-CM coding for almost 6 months now and these old books are relics of the past. Check out - 2013 Super ICD-9-CM Volumes 1 & 2 (Diseases and Injuries) .. 2013 available NOW, not paying $100 to pre-order a book that will arrive in months.

When using the 2012 ICD-9-CM the different color print makes it difficult to read. The print is also VERY small. I am not happy with spending $97.00 for a book and I can't read it due to the small print/color.

The mere size and weight was a trial in getting the book to class. The material was GREAT!!! It's the study guide needed for developing skills...
