There is a serious disconnect occurring somewhere in this text book. In the prerequisite section (AKA Algebra I at other learning resources), from factoring polynomials through section P.6, either A) the content is not explained thoroughly/correctly, B) answers to practice problems, or the practice problems themselves, have typos, or C) a combination of the two. I have thoroughly, repeatedly, and meticulously checked my work on a couple of problems and I consistently produce the same answer, which is different than the check answers provided in the back of the book. I'm also using a particular Academy online to learn alongside this book and I feel I have a very very thorough grasp of factoring polynomials because of the examples and explanations I've worked through online. It's a relatively simple process. I do not feel my work is shaky at all, I feel very confident in my ability to work through the problems, and my math checks when I reverse the factoring process. But somehow, I still manage to get completely different answers than the book. I get the same answers as the online resource, different answers from the book. Not different on every problem. Just different on some problems. But when the check answers are different from your answers, the math that would result in the book's answers doesn't make any logical sense, and the resulting "x cannot equal..." number set is different from your number set, it leads one to question their process, their rational, and their grasp of the concepts. It's extremely confusing. I'm shelving this book. It may prove helpful for other sections, but the prerequisites is ridiculously frustrating. I would not recommend this book for the self-learner. There are online resources that are free, that are much more thorough, and much easier to use.
This book is exetremely practical, It has so many real world applications. There are a ton of questions after each section and check points in the sub chapters. The review and test after each chapter really helps.It provides so many useful tips and notes to help you jump over common pitfalls.Overall, I love this book very much. Theres a reason it has over 4.5 stars :).
