Not enough color photos. Black and white photos too hard to see detail. If you like to read about the descriptions, then this is for you. I am visual, and zone out on the written details, when all I want to know is what kind of shell I found.
I have this book and purchased it for a friend who is a beginner shell collector. This is the best book out there for shells from North Carolina. It covers practically all the shells a collector can find on the beaches and offshore. It is very complete and comprehensive with great photographs and detailed descriptions of each shell to aid in identification. This was a labor of love for the author and the North Carolina Shell Club. A must for any sheller's library!
After reading the review of this book, we were looking forward to receiving it. Disappointed. We would have preferred color, less detailed description, something more in line with very novice shell seekers on the Outer Banks. Guess we will look for a 'kiddie book' next summer.
My family is from the N.C . coast and I have been collecting shells for 50 plus years. This is one of the most through shell books I've ever owned. The color pictures very sharp and clear, which always helps when identifying distinct patterns. I highly recommend this book and encourage anyone with a love for shells to purchase it . You won't be disappointed.
This book is useless. The pics are all in black and white. It has five pages at the very back of the book with a few selected color pics. Don't waste your money.
Love this book..........have a place at the shore and often pick up shells. I have learned many things from the book. I would recommend this to anyone with an interest in NC shells
I love the beach and purchased this book before a trip to the NC Outer Banks with my family. It was fun for all to identify the shells we found.
Great book just wish the shells were in their true color.
